A B O U T B O N N I EBonnie has over 18 years of experience working with children. For the last 12 years, she has provided in-home and in-school behavior intervention and support to families with children with social, relational, emotional, developmental and sensory needs. She was trained in ABA and DIR at ACES, Inc. in Irvine and worked closely under the supervision of Dr. Gusty-Lee Boulware and Dr. RinaMarie Leon-Guerrero of PEERS Play in Seattle using RDI play therapy, naturalistic and positive behavior techniques. She holds a M.A. from the University of Washington and a B.A. from UC Berkeley in sociology. She has also designed and directed an all-outdoor forest daycamp, taught English to elementary students in France, and taught graduate courses at the University of Washington. Sensory-sensitive herself, she has a special interest in sensory regulation and enjoys working closely with families to better understand and inform a practice that best reflects their needs. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and their two children, writing, gardening, interior design and photography. |
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE | I have worked on over 20 cases using a variety of techniques. My experience includes: ABA, DIR, RDI play therapies, Denver Start Model, ALERT program, social stories, SUPERFLEX strategies, Handwriting without Tears, and other case by case methodologies. I have received training and supervision from PEERS Play BCBA's Gusty-Lee Boulware and RinaMarie Leon-Guerrero, as well through ACES Inc., and STEPS.
MY APPROACH | I have developed a naturalistic style over the years. I incorporate a lot of social stories, RDI, DIR, and other play-based therapy to embed each client's program. I have found sensory regulation strategies are key to success for my sessions, so I invite children to take check and develop and awareness of what their body needs (ALERT program), and encourage breaks as needed.
